As I worked at the SKVR (music-school) in Rotterdam for 13 years as a saxophone teacher and bandcoach I became head of the Popschool department for the last 8 years up until 2005. In 2002 I also worked as coordinator of the Jazz-Pop and Worldmusic department at Codarts for 2 years.
In 2005 I started at Conservatorium Alkmaar as head of the Pop-department. We developed an E-Music department and the Conservatory grew from the smallest Conservatory in Holland to one of the best institutes around with the best recommendation. (Nr 1 for 4 years in a row in the National Student Enquete and nr 1 in the ‘Keuzegids HBO 2016 and 2017). The Conservatory is now based in Haarlem where we develope new educational ways of positive learning (doesn’t feel like school, but feels like the real world) like the International WritersCamp in cooperation with several international conservatories and publishers or projects with amazing guest-artists like Candy Dulfer, Alain Clark, Trijntje Oosterhuis, VanVelzen, Waylon, Douwe Bob and Ali B. Every day we try to build on a creative environment where the students can grow to become the best equipped Dutch upcoming musicians.
I’ve been managing teacher-groups from 10 up till 90 teachers, now working with a group of 50 teachers whereof 25 in my Pop-team. It’s a blast to work daily with such great musicians, teachers and students.
